Sandra's Journey | 5. Connection at the rock

sandra's journey

Sandra's journey. Filmmaker Sandra Korse journeyed with us in The Rhythms of Africa. She captured the creation process and her inner journey in short video's and writings.

In this week's episode we are meeting Latif. Latif and I once 'met' one another via ZOOM as I was preparing the launch of Carole's book This is my true Africa. I immediately felt a special connection with this African leader and I am delighted to meet him in real life today.

SG Mobile Health Care
The kambu (local taxi) drops us off at the end of a long red dirt road. We walk the last few hundred meters before we arrive at the new building where SG Mobile Health Care is located.

Carole and Latif met one another in 2017 and the depth of their connection becomes apparent immediately. Carole has coached Latif during the start-up phase of SG Mobile Health Care. It is wonderful to hear about the growth of his business in a relatively short period of time.

Impressed
I enjoy listening to his story. One of the reasons he started this social enterprise is that he noticed, among other things, that people did not receive the care they needed because of a lack of beds in the hospitals. I quote Latif: "Everyone has a bed at home, so why don't we take the care to the people?" And so he started with offering mobile health care. Today there are 20 nurses who continuously move around on scooters to provide care to the approximately 300 beneficiaries. Furthermore, he has set up his own pharmacy and laboratory. I'm impressed.

By this man, as well as by Carole's ability to recognise entrepreneurial leaders like Latif at an early stage and guide them to their full potential.

Connection at ‘The Rock’
That afternoon Latif takes us to "the rock", a beautiful place in nature where he and Carole usually have deep connective conversations. Today Carole also shares a paragraph from her book with Latif.

A few days later I am invited to join Latif with my camera for a day in the field as he drives around on his scooter. An absolutely beautiful experience, that I’d love to share with you in this week’s video.
