- Reviewed in Australia on 28 July 2024Verified PurchaseKate’s style of writing is refreshing which makes it easy to read and absorb. Plus what she writes about is honest and very useful to me as a sole trader/small business.
- Reviewed in Australia on 26 July 2023Verified PurchaseWhat an incredible book - Kate absolutely nailed every.single.insecurity and struggle I have felt and faced since beginning my own freelance work-from-home journey almost three years ago.
Balancing being a parent to small(ish) humans and successfully building a business from the comfort of my own home office has seen smiles, tears, sleepless nights and many, many moments of self-doubt. This book covers them all (and more), with practical ways to approach the really tough stuff.
Admittedly binge-read on the day it arrived, I’ve already gone back to it time and time again to get clear about how I can create a calmer, more stress- and guilt-free business - one that allows me to show up and be the best version of ‘home mum’ and ‘working mum’ that I can be.
Written with humour and grace, the tips and strategies are honest, relatable and real-world tested, which is what makes you realise that balance really is attainable.
So for anyone out there wondering whether it’s truly possible to successfully run a home business AND still be a good parent? Yes, it is. Just make sure to read this book first!
- Reviewed in Australia on 2 August 2023Verified PurchaseThis is the book I've been looking for! I've read countless other business books that claim to help you build your business but none cover it like this one. Most of the other books forget that many of us are parents and although we may love our business, it will never be a priority over parenting! This insightful (and actionable) book covers it all and doesn't just give parenting a quick paragraph. We are parents first, and business owners second so it was extremely refreshing to read a book geared towards that reality. Not only are the chapters easily digestible, but the book is filled with actionable tips and helpful mindset shifts to really move your business forward.
Bonus points for the TLDR's at the end of the chapters so you can quickly dive in where you need it the most!
This book is very well written and I recommend it to all parents trying to "balance" the many hats we wear as business owners and parents.
- Reviewed in Australia on 29 September 2024Verified PurchaseIt is always really good to learn from someone that has done it, and still doing it. So it's not based on theories, it's real practical advice.
- Reviewed in Australia on 15 December 2023Verified PurchaseA really great book for mums (and dads) who have their own business. Full of practical and realistic advice, it’s a great read
- Reviewed in Australia on 23 August 2023Verified PurchaseThis book is going to be in my resources kit for a long while. It's very real and relatable and a fantastic guide for unpacking views around work, money, success and family.

- Reviewed in Australia on 25 March 2024School hours. Oh, how they fly by! Especially if you're a working parent. Even MORE so if you're a parent who is running a business.
If you're finding yourself stuck between the titles of 'rockstar parent' and 'rockstar entrepreneur;', and on many days, feel more like the 'rock' than the 'star' - this book is for you. (So much so that at times you'll think to yourself, "Does Kate have a little secret camera in my house? In my head?! How does she know my pain points so well?!) Because she's been exactly where you are before.
Kate's book oozes wisdom and authenticity. There's no fluff or sugar coating. No guilt tripping or 'drill sergeant-ing'. Just golden, applicable insights, laced with her signature humour.
Like every piece of content she produces, Kate keeps it real and insanely practical.
Being a working parent is life's greatest juggle. No book will ever change that.
But Six Figures in School Hours will certainly help you keep all the balls up in the air, with a smile on your face and with extra cash in your account.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally a realistic and practical book for entrepreneur parents!
Verified PurchaseI was hooked on this book by Kate Toon from my first read of the sample on Kindle (and it's a very generous sample!). 30 minutes later I had no hesitation clicking 'Buy Now'.
Kate had me laughing and nodding and doing some serious reflection just in the first three chapters. This author really gets what it's like to be a parent and entrepreneur. She knows that we can feel half spent by the time we even get to our desk in the morning. And, she's not promising unicorns and rainbows. (she does seem to like Otters however).
This book is all about getting real as well as successful as a parent entrepreneur. What's your why? (like really...), what are your financial goals, and how to reframe your wins whether your kids are babies, toddlers or teenagers.
It's so good to read something really relatable like this and Kate's sense of humour makes it easy to pick up!
